Final results: Summary results | Town resultsThe BasicsThe New Hampshire primary is a mainstay in American electoral politics. Every four years, voters gather to help determine the Republican and/or Democratic nominee for President. While the state only has 12 electoral votes in 2012 (normally it’s 24, but the Republican National Committee penalized the state party for moving up the event date), the primary’s position as one of the earliest contests gives the state out-sized influence over the nomination process.Only the Iowa caucuses come before New Hampshire’s primary. Traditionally, New Hampshire’s broad-based primary contest has been seen as a counter-weight to Iowa’s more drawn-out caucus process, which tends to draw a smaller core of party faithful. In the case of the 2012 Republican race, New Hampshire’s electorate is seen to represent the more libertarian-leaning, fiscally conservative wing of the party, while Iowa voters are seen as representing the socially conservative wing of the GOP base.N.H. Candidate Forum: New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District

We present the second of our candidate forums on business and the economy. We sit down with the candidates for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District:  incumbent Republican Charlie Bass and Democratic challenger Ann McLane Kuster.  We’ll examine the issues -- from deficits to health care to job growth.

About the Forum:

The Business and Industry Association, New Hampshire Public Television, New Hampshire Public Radio and New Hampshire Union Leader are partnering to host a second round of gubernatorial and congressional debates on Sept. 17, 18, and 19 at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics & Political Library at Saint Anselm College at 9:00 am.

NHPR will broadcast each debate live during The Exchange; host Laura Knoy will ask questions and moderate. NHPTV’s Phil Vaughan and the Union Leader’s Mike Cote will serve on the panel. An audio archive will be available at www.nhpr.org, and the debates will air on NHPTV (tape delay).

Sponsored by the Lincoln Financial Group.

Laura is well known in New Hampshire for her in-depth coverage of important issues and is widely regarded for her interviews with presidential hopefuls. Laura is a graduate of Keene High School in New Hampshire. Prior to hosting The Exchange, Laura worked in public radio in Washington, D.C. as a local reporter and announcer for WAMU and as a newscaster for NPR. Before her radio career, she was a researcher for USA Today's "Money" section, and a research assistant at the Institute for International Economics. Laura occasionally guest hosts national programs such as The Diane Rehm Show and Here and Now. In 2007 Laura was named New Hampshire Broadcaster of the Year by the New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters.
