Nashua Mayor Responds to Police Investigation

Sheryl Rich-Kern, NHPR

Nashua Mayor DonnaleeLozeau spoke publicly on Friday, November 8, in response to a police investigation of her and her husband, David.

In front of about 30 people at city hall, Nashua Mayor DonnaleeLozeau said that a small number of people are the cause of a smear campaign against her and her husband, David.

On Monday, November 4, the Lozeaus released documents from a 2009 investigation that accused her of kickbacks and her husband of bid-rigging and drug use.

The mayor reiterated they’ve done nothing wrong. She also refused to address any of the specifics in the documents:

"Somebody leaked the existence of those documents because they were interested in bullying and intimidating me and that’s not going to work. I’m not going to get down in the mud line by line, quote by quote."

No charges were ever filed. But the Lozeaus learned they were the subjects of investigation once again shortly after the mayor criticized the police union for not accepting concessions in their contracts.

Lozeau acknowledged that her clashes with the Nashua police department, specifically with Chief John Seusing, need repair:

"It is my hope that by meeting more often we can bridge the divide, which has come to exist. If I am not on his Christmas card list, I’ll get over it. If I’m not on his speed dial, we’ll still have a problem. "
