The French manufacturing company Safran and their American collaborator, Albany International, held an inauguration ceremony for their new manufacturing plant in Rochester on Monday. Nearly the entire New Hampshire delegation – as well as the French Ambassador to the United States -- showed up for the event.
At the new plant in Rochester, workers will build carbon-fiber airplane parts – like super-lightweight blades for the next generation of jet engines.
Addressing more than 100 workers wearing blue Safran jackets, Representative Carol Shea Porter, Governor Maggie Hassan, and Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte commended the international collaboration. Ayotte said together, Albany and Safran are bringing both high-tech manufacturing jobs and energy-saving technology to the Granite State.
Essentially we’re going to save fuel, and obviously when we save on energy it will make it less costly to fly, there are so many positives here so I want to congratulate all of you,
Albany and Safran expect to hire 400-500 employees by 2020, and have partnered with Great Bay Community College for workforce training.
