PUBLIC HEARING ON BETHLEHEM LANDFILL APPLICATION TO EXPAND
Thursday April 17 at 6 PM at Profile High School, Route 18, Bethlehem. Public Hearing for NCES LF's Type IA Permit Application to add 8.06 acres of landfill footprint, providing approximately 1,903,000 cubic yards of new capacity. BLUEBERRY PRUNING AND APPLE GRAFTING DEMO, NORTH HAVERHILL
Saturday April 19 10-1 PM Windy Ridge Orchard, 1775 Benton Road, Route 116. Demonstration led by Bill Lord, UNH Cooperative Extension Fruit Specialist, Emeritus. Bill will answer your questions and demonstrate apple grafting and blueberry pruning techniques. To register, contact the Univeristy of NH Cooperative Extension office at ce.grafton@unh.edu or (603) 787-6944. Suggested donation $5 for this outdoor event, come dressed and prepared for the weather. Ten working days are needed to facilitate special needs requests.

SPRING MODEL RAILROADING SHOW, HAVERHILL
Saturday April 19, 10 AM - 3 PM, Haverhill Cooperative Middle School on Morrill Drive, NH Route 116 in North Haverhill. Hosted by the Ammonoosuc Valley Railway Association, $3 adults, students free if with a paying adult. Model trains on display, also on display will be a "V gauge" layout on a computer, a truly modern approach to model railroading, the Virtual Engineer train-mounted video camera will be operating on the modular layout, small children can operate the trains on a layout just for them, make-and-take program for young modelers. Warmth, vitality and spontaneity mark the performances of folk musicians Susie Burke and David Surette, vocals and strings, they blend contemporary, traditional and original folk and acoustic music.

CHRIS SMITHER IN CONCERT, HAVERHILL
Saturday April 19 7:30 PM Alumni Hall. Having distilled his own signature sound of blues and folk for over 40 years, Chris Smither is truly an American original. A profound songwriter, Chris continues to draw deeply from the blues, American folk music, modern poets and philosophers. From his early days as the New Orleans transplant in the Boston folk scene, through his wilderness years, to his reemergence in the 1990s as one of America’s most distinctive acoustic performers, Chris Smither continues to hone his distinctive sound. Monday April 21 at 7 PM. The library hosts a discussion of "Third Helpings", which is in Trillin's omnibus volume, "The Tummy Trilogy". Trillin is a journalist, humorist, and food writer. HOW TURKEYS GOT THEIR NAME, WHERE THEY SLEEP, WHY THEY GOBBLE, BETHLEHEM
Weds. April 23 at 7 PM The Rocks Estate on Route 302. Nigel Manley, manager of The Rocks Estate discusses the conservation effort to help the species grow in NH and how they became domesticated. DISCUSSIONS OF STORIES BY BALDWIN & EVERETT AT HAVERHILL CORNER LIBRARY
Thursday April 24 at 7 PM Book Club for Writers discusses the work of James Baldwin and Percival Everett. Copies of their work is available at the library. Free and open to the public. HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE SERVICE, BETHLEHEM
Sunday April 27, 4 PM, Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, 39 Strawberry Hill. To mark Halocaust Memorial Day, the Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation is hosting a community service to honor man’s triumph over darkness. Pianist Marjan Kiepura (Littleton, NH) will open the service with the Chopin Prelude Op. 28, No. 15 in D-Flat, the “Raindrop Prelude.”  The Holocaust Remembrance Service, accompanied by live music performed by Shana Aisenberg (violin, mandolin) and Beverly Woods (accordion), is interactive with live music, song, poetry, and inspiration. The service will be followed by a light dairy-vegetarian potluck. Personal stories welcome at this community gathering of remembrance, hope, and light. BATH LIBRARY BOOK CLUB DISCUSSES "CLARA & MR. TIFFANY" BY SUSAN VREELAND
Thursday May 8 at 6 PM Bath Public Library. “Clara and Mr. Tiffany” is the story of Clara Driscoll, head of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s New York studio’s women’s division. Clara conceives of and designs nearly all of the iconic leaded-glass lamps for which Tiffany will long be remembered. Never publicly acknowledged, Clara struggles with her desire for artistic recognition and the seemingly insurmountable challenges that she faces as a professional woman. She also yearns for love and companionship, and is devoted in different ways to five men, including Tiffany, who enforces a strict policy. He does not employ married women. Books may be picked up at the Bath Library, hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00am to noon and 1:00pm to 6:00pm and Saturdays 9:00am to noon.
